A tri-fold leaflet has three panels and can organise six content surfaces when printed on both sides. It is useful for presenting services, programmes and products, but the artwork should not be designed until the fold has been defined.

What is a custom tri-fold leaflet?
It is made from one sheet with two folds. Its dimensions, colours, paper and structure can be customised, but production must still respect the limits of the folding equipment and materials.
A4 open or A4 closed?
An A4 sheet in landscape orientation measures 297 × 210 mm and can be folded into panels approximately 99 mm wide. If the finished, closed leaflet needs to be A4, the open sheet will be considerably larger. State this clearly in the order.
Roll fold and accordion fold
In a roll fold, one panel folds inside and may need to be slightly narrower. In an accordion fold, the folds alternate direction. Use the printer’s final template rather than assuming that every panel is identical.
How to arrange the content
Place the main message on the front cover, distribute the internal information according to the opening sequence and reserve one surface for contact details or the next action. Check the route using a paper mock-up before export.
Paper and finishes
Coated papers can suit photographic work; uncoated stocks have a different texture and behaviour. Heavy card may need creasing to fold cleanly without cracking.
Mistakes to avoid
- Making three equal panels without confirming the fold.
- Placing text across a crease.
- Forgetting bleed and the safe margin.
- Supplying a PDF with the sides or panels reversed.
- Failing to inspect a folded mock-up.
What affects the quotation?
The open size, quantity, paper, finishes and type of fold all affect the price. Supply both open and closed dimensions and clarify which panel folds inward.
