Custom Embossing Seal: Uses, Paper and Artwork

Impresión en Madrid golpe en seco personalizado distincion y calidad

An embossing seal creates a raised or recessed mark in paper through pressure, without an ink pad. It can identify certificates, diplomas, documents and creative projects, but its appearance depends on both the paper and the tool.

Before ordering: define the size, intended use and production requirements.

How does an embossing seal work?

The mechanism uses two dies that press the substrate and form the relief. It can contain a name, symbol or simple design. The depth and definition vary with the paper thickness and the tool’s capacity.

Ink stamp versus embossing seal

A rubber stamp transfers ink to a compatible surface; an embossing seal physically deforms the paper through pressure. Both can mark documents, but their appearance and artwork requirements are different.

Which size should you choose?

The usable area determines how many characters can be reproduced. On a small seal, a logo with complex or fine lines may lose definition. Available dimensions depend on the manufacturer and die shape.

Suitable papers and practical limits

Very thick or brittle paper may not reproduce the relief well. Before selecting the tool, check the materials you will use, the insertion depth and the required orientation of the impression.

How to design the die artwork

  1. Define the tool and impression size.
  2. Use a legible symbol and text.
  3. Avoid excessively fine lines.
  4. Check margins and distance from the paper edge.
  5. Request a sample on the actual paper.

Bookplates, invitations and certificates

A bookplate identifies ownership of a book, while a diploma may use relief as a presentation detail. A decorative impression must never be presented as a substitute for the legal authentication requirements of a document.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need ink?

No, not for the pressure-embossed effect.

Can it be used on thick card?

That depends on the tool’s capacity and the card.

Is it the same as foil stamping?

No. Foil stamping can transfer a metallic or coloured film, while blind embossing creates relief without foil.
